Five hours drive from our last stay in Cala Gonone we crossed via causeway and ferry to Carloforte the only town on the coast opposite the Sardinian mainland. We reached San Pietro via the causeway to Santa Antioch and then a 20 minute ferry ride to San Pietro.
On the Island side of the causeway from mainland Sardinia to Sant Antioch I suddenly felt I had returned to an earlier time in Italy. I half expected to encounter another car on the small road barely two cars wide but traffic was light. It felt that I was entering another simpler, friendlier, less commercialized time.
Then to the Ferry Porto de embargo per Carloforte and a ride on the Delcomar Eolo to Carloforte.

The ferry ride was a pleasure. Easy on and off and reasonable cost, 35 Euro one way.

Legend has it that St Peter visited San Pietro in 46 A.D. It was pretty hot on arrival about 30 degrees C. Walking was easy, the village is small and our hotel the Nichotel just off the Main Street with a loading zone in front and free town parking lot a few blocks away.
Before dinner we cooled off with a gelato from the aptly named Il Frutto Divino.

This town is a dream, unspoiled by its tourism and friendly in every way. Good restaurants and quiet small streets that call the explorer.

Later we had an eight o’clock reservation at the Polpeta Bistrot.

The Bistrot specializes in traditional recipes made well with high quality ingredients and it was lovely. We started with the Bruschetta of the day which was three different flavors, traditional tomato, eggplant and mozzarella with bottarga. I had the Monkfish which was amazingly flavorful. Both dishes were extraordinary.
Tomorrow to one of the numerous beaches easily accessible by car.
