A short drive down the lakeside from Bellagio is another once upon a time fishing village, Varenna, now dedicated to tourism in all its forms.

Narrow stair streets drop to the lakeside all along with the mountains as a backdrop. We were there August 23-25 warm sunny days and clear moonlit nights, a romantic stop on our excursion from MIlan to Venice by car.

Two ferry stops serve Varenna at opposite ends of the boardwalk along the lake. Here a crowd awaits the ferry in front of the hotel with the mountains in the background.

The walk back is pretty much an uphill climb back to the center of town.

The beach on the lake front behind the Hotel Royal Victoria affords a spot to slow down and pose for photos.
Afterward there is time to wander the alleys of Varenna
At last we rest with a late night cappuccino at the bar at the Hotel Royal Victoria.
Our Room is at the Casa Contrada Bella just off the main Piazza.
In the morning exploring the hills above town and a fortified tower.
After working on our appetite all day
Its time for dinner lakeside
